A decade of engineering for the world's most demanding cable applications
ARCAB exists to bring a fundamentally better armoured cable and coiled tubing technology to the industries that need it most. The technology is the result of more than a decade of dedicated research and engineering — combining a unique approach to single-layer interlocking steel armouring with the production processes needed to manufacture it at industrial scale.
The inventors
The patent family is the work of a two-engineer inventor partnership.
Werner Führer
Werner Führer brings decades of expertise in cables and tubing for demanding industrial applications. Earlier patents (under his sole name) cover geophysical measurement cable systems for oil and gas exploration and hydraulic engineering — the technical lineage that informs ARCAB's design.
Werner Haberkamp
Werner Haberkamp is a German engineer and architect whose collaboration with Werner Führer produced the patented single-layer interlocking armour design that distinguishes ARCAB from conventional cable and coiled tubing.
The two inventors filed a coordinated family of patents starting from a priority date of 10 October 2014, leading to four granted patents to date.
Patent portfolio
EP 3 007 178 — High Rigidity Cable (European, granted)
EP 3 007 179 — High Rigidity Cable and Method for Producing the Same (European, granted)
EP 3 006 801 — "Coiled-Tubing"-Type Flexible Pipe and Production Method (European, granted)
DE 10 2014 014 793 B4 — Kabel hoher Steifigkeit und dessen Verwendung / High-Stiffness Cable and Its Use (German national, granted January 2026)
All four patents share the 10 October 2014 priority date. The most recent grant — DE 10 2014 014 793 B4, granted in January 2026 — strengthens the protection portfolio for the German manufacturing market.
Validation partners
Material properties and electromagnetic behaviour have been validated in collaboration with Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (materials science and manufacturing-process validation) and the Fraunhofer Institute (demagnetism and electromagnetic-compatibility measurements). These collaborations have established that the ARCAB design meets and exceeds the performance levels required for the most demanding applications in oil and gas, geothermal energy, and critical-infrastructure security.
Manufacturing readiness
The inventors have established working relationships with leading German and Swiss manufacturers capable of building both the prototyping infrastructure and the full-scale production machinery for the ARCAB cable and coiled tubing. The technology requires no specialised manufacturing equipment beyond what these established producers already operate — enabling a clear path from proven prototype to commercial-scale production.
Vision
Our vision is to establish this technology as the new industry standard for applications requiring robust, reliable, environmentally sound, and physically resilient cable protection and coiled tubing.
Critical infrastructure — power grids, telecommunications backbones, transport networks, and industrial sites — increasingly faces threats that conventional armouring was never designed for: deliberate sabotage, geopolitical risk, accelerating environmental degradation, and the operational consequences of cable failure in an interconnected world. The ARCAB technology was developed to meet exactly these challenges.
